Ole intramuralers submit to Hamline in IM contest
St. Olaf's INTRAMURALERS continued their friendly rivalry with HAMLINE UNIVERSITY Monday night, bowing good naturedly to their hosts by a 40 to 20 count over the field of six sporting events.
The only victors for the Ole mainstays were Hans Lillejord who triumphed in Ping Pong Singles, the Bowling team which fostered victory by a 300 pin margin via the strikings of Frank Anderson, Warren Wangen, Sandy Freud, Ardie Pankow and Bob Reid. The last of the triune victors were Ernie Gramstad and Dean Johnson in Shuffleboard Doubles.
Getting the axe was the GOPHER basketball team which dropped a 41 to 34 encounter after leading 29 to 28 going into the final quarter. Kearney Frantzen assisted the Gopher crew with 13 points, ten of them on 5 straight goals in the third quarter. Jim Geiwitz netted 8.
Also bowing were the HAWKEYE Volleyball team, the Badminton Singles and Doubles team, and the Ping Pong Doubles team. Refreshments ushered the night's events to a close.
Intramural softballers continued their weather beaten paths this week with only thee WILDCATS, TROJANS, IRISH and MAROONS clinging to the undefeated ranks. The birds in the woods are still talking of Ken Quirin's feat last week. Quirin, pilot of the Maroons, swatted out 3 home runs in their 21 to 3 romping of the Gophers. But that isn't all, Quiring hit two of them with the bases loaded!
Monday night at 4:30 the annual INTRAMURAL Track Meet will cinderize the puffs and wheezes of the 12 teams entered in all of the regular events. All male personnel are eligible providing they are not showing their wares on the varsity track squad.
