Haugen selects 'Medea' cost

The cast for the next St. Olaf theatre production, Euripedes' Medea, has been announced by director Ralph Haugen. In the title role of Medea is Sonja Gandrud; Jason is played by Bill Koch. Others chosen for the cast are: J. Randolph Cox, Kreon; Tom Jaggers, Aegeus; Leanne Jensen, the nurse; Rick May, the Tutor, and Kathy Morner, Choragus. A Chorus of Corinthian Women includes Sylvia Groth, Audrey Hoyt, Kay DeBroux, Fritzi Herman, Carol Sunde, and Lorna Aalbue.

The play exemplifies the tragedy of a woman, who, after giving up family, homeland, and personal integrity for the love of one man, is deserted by him for another woman and is sent into exile. All she has left are her two children and these become the means through which she works her terrible revenge.

Medea will be presented in the Drama Studio May 14, 15, 16 as a part of the spring Fine Arts Festival.
